Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

Can definatly do without the possums @Former-Member  (spelled it correctly that time 🤬 autocorrect and fat thumbs lol)  in the ceiling. Had one expire in the ceiling of the office I was working in once  not to mention the 'signature' they leave.

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

One of my favourite items in our decluttering program was the acquisition of black velvet clothes hangers (bulk box cost = under $20). After having a motley crew of wire/wooden units that would frustratingly tangle as well as have a tendency to go out of shape, these non slip hangers sit nice and flat and are space saving. They are now one of my go to gifts and the friends I have given them to enjoy them as much as I do.

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

@Former-Member, I must admit a penchant for the old wooden ones with knitted covers. 🙂 My Mum makes big pouffy ones with knitting lace that my sister loves, but I prefer plainer ones. I have had fun a few times trying out new knitting stitches by making a coathanger cover.  I think from memory it was cast on 20 and keep going until the length was right. That's a good size for a "sampler" piece. Big enough to get real practice at the new stitch, but not so big that it becomes an interminable task.

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

I did keep a couple of sturdy wooden hangers for heavy coats @Smc .

It is funny, whilst my desk is messy and I don't mind an eclectic mix of furniture, storage containers and the like there are some spots where I like some form of uniformity, apart from the hangers, my clothing is generally grouped in colour range,  spices are in matching jars (and in alphabetical order), books in "my" side of the bookcase are grouped with similar (a mini Dewey system). This spills into the garden too, with bulbs being put in terracotta pots (different round shapes - no squares) and themed beds.

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

@Former-Member, sounds like you and @Determined would enjoy a joint gardening session. I like things somewhat more eclectic. 🙂 The more it looks like a wild forest meadow, the better.

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

Have responded in garden thread @Smc  I am not one for clipped hedges in my own yard - too much work and I doubt I could cut them straight.

In the home I like things comfortable and homely, just found a few items that have helped with the decluttering process and helped me bring order to the chaos.

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

Ooooooo I love the black velvet hangers ... MsS got me a bunch too !!!! Awesome 👏 @Former-Member

Re: Decluttering and home maintenance

There is certainly going to be a bit of home maintenance for us to attend to in our new home.

We cannot get hot water service going, have called plumber, hoping someone will be able to come. Mr Darcy said he would have a cold shower if water not fixed before appt on Tuesday (in 12-14 deg max weather).
