Self care is certainly easier when things are relatively stable.
In times of crisis or high stress we go on high alert and often self care goes out the window.
This article gives the following tips
* be aware of your own stress reactions
* assess the situation and realistically organise things
* if a matter of life and death, call appropriate service ie lifeline, ambulance
*breathe
* know your own triggers, avoid or diffuse them
* give yourself permission to be empathic
* chose useful and healthy responses
* work at your own emotions rather than blaming or finger pointing
* chose your battles wisely
* be mindful, remain in present
* avoid making big decisions
* try and see the positive
* work toward having a break and recharging
* get counsel
* keep healthy habits, regular eating and excercise
