Re: Self care by growing a garden

Perhaps we have not stayed in a place long enough to "finish" a garden @Shaz51  @Appleblossom, not that one ever does,  they constantly evolve.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

When I first started planting (17 years ago) - to establish my garden (front & back):

I had to plant over 100 plants (over 10 years or so), with only less than 1/4 surviving to establish.

It was bare infertile sand, with virtually nothing already there.

The main set-back was passers-by (people) deliberately smashing up my shrubs & small trees (front & verge).

They kept smashing & breaking them, until the plants died.

I cannot understand how people can be so willingly destructive, especially when it's not their property (trespass) - & they have no reason to be there at all.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

I can't wait to start being able to plant at our place @Adge, still taking out undesirable plants. There a fair few bulbs that I will transplant at the appropriate time and I am making a mental list of the plants I would like to put in.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

Did you see the garden they did up on 'The Living Room' @Shaz51? I really liked the potting up area and I think we may have a spot here that might be just the spot for a potting bench (similar but different) 😀

Gardeners know the best dirt.

So many seeds -- so little time.

Old Gardeners never die, they just go to seed.

I love that you said you can never have enough plants @Adge

tho I dont agree. I will fully support your right to say it. I wonder if I should start a new hobby when I run out of soil and there is only concrete around ...

An old friend said his lawyer wife does just the same as me ... the earth just bursting with plants ... so I am not the only one ... phew!

Shocking that people wreck stuff.  I have found that too.

NOW I am older I have planted and lost plants that I cannot even remember the names of.  Learning about gardens and nature has always been more important to me than having a nice garden .... or boasting about Latin names ....

Owning fancy real estate seems a false value to me.  Did not save my little brother.  He had 9 houses in inner Sydney, but he still died too young,

Yes all gardens evolve

even the ones in well established areas ... where the hedge may be trimmed to look like a boxing glove
